International access directly from Mayenne

Laval and Mayenne Airport covers 113 Ha, 4 km south-southeast from the town of Laval, is open to public air travel. The airport is managed by the Syndicat Mixte de l’Aéroport de Laval et de la Mayenne (SMALM).

Beausoleil aerodrome first opened on July 11th, 1937, on the initiative of the Aéroclub de la Mayenne (founded in 1921), marking the occasion with an air meeting. It was not until 1973 that the aerodrome was to become Laval and Mayenne airport, notably with the introduction of an asphalt runway and construction of a control tower.

Around 22,000 passengers travel through Laval airport each year.

Both the presence of customs services and the usable runway size (1662 m x 30m) enable direct international flights.

An airport for all

The airport is 2nd in the west of France in terms of business aviation, after Roche sur Yon. It has 10 aircraft dedicated to business travel out of a total of 57 aircraft based here.

Recreational aviation also constitutes a significant proportion of activity; Laval and Mayenne Airport brings together five associative bodies, for almost 240 licensees.

Onsite, a flying school offers first time flights, private flights, flights for leisure, tourism, and business, flying courses, as well as private pilot training.

Avia Laval is the only company in Mayenne specialised in aircraft maintenance and repair, having been at the aerodrome since 1992. Avia maintains various aircraft, both with piston and turbine engines. Avia’s expertise is recognised throughout France with some aircraft coming from overseas to undergo maintenance here.

Finally, as there is no heliport at the hospital, medical transport also passes through the airport with between 3 to 5 flights every month. Most frequently these are patients being transferred to hospitals at Angers and Nantes, and on occasion to Le Mans, Rennes, and Tours.
